How Eco Tooth Are Saving the Planet

Replacing your toothbrush every 3 months means you will throw away 4 disposable plastic toothbrushes every year (left) instead of just replacing the head on 1 reusable ‘Tooth’ toothbrush 4 times a year (right).

Eco Tooth Ltd are a UK-based company that makes eco-friendly toothbrushes. Founded in 2019, the company is already showing some strong signs of success.

According to dentist recommendation, we should be changing our toothbrush every 2 to 3 months, which equates to over 400 toothbrushes in an average lifespan. Surprisingly, more than 98% of the toothbrushes we throw away are not biodegradable.

Plastic has a severe impact on our environment, and is a major threat to our planet.

Eco Tooth Ltd wanted to change this, and they’ve redesigned the everyday toothbrush, with some simple and satisfying differences. The brand aims to positively impact the environment, and people’s teeth, of course.

The idea for Eco Tooth came when Joshua Oates, Co-Founder & CEO, was so busy, that he kept forgetting to change his plastic toothbrush. He thought “why do I have to throw away the whole thing?” And thus, the idea for Tooth was born.

I’ve always loved designing things, and this time, I wanted to create something that would benefit both you and the planet.

Joshua Oates, Co-Founder & CEO of Eco Tooth Ltd

Their toothbrush handle is made from 100% recycled aluminium, and the head of their brush is changeable and biodegradable. Different bristle strengths and colours are also available to choose from.

On top of that, other accessories have been made alongside the brush to suit daily tooth care for a wide range of customers, such as a recycled stainless steel toothbrush stand (Tooth.Stand) that can be attached to a recycled plastic travel case (Tooth.Travel) allowing people to take their eco-friendly toothbrush kit everywhere they go.

The brand operates on a subscription-based model, with the advantage that subscribers won’t have to worry about forgetting to change their toothbrush ever again. Subscribers will receive new heads every quarter, in recyclable packaging. So, not only are Eco Tooth saving the planet, but they’re also saving people’s teeth too.

I always believed that any big change starts with the smallest of actions, so why not start with the simple act of brushing your teeth?

Kiana Guyon, Co-Founder & CCO of Eco Tooth Ltd

In September 2019, Eco Tooth launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, which was 212% funded with over 1400 backers. Since then, the company has kicked off their pre-order store on their website, and they’ve been growing ever since.
