British Baby Box Celebrates Five Year Anniversary

A baby peaking out of a baby box

British Baby Box, the provider of Baby Boxes worldwide, has just celebrated an impressive milestone – their five year anniversary.

Founded by two mothers, Sarah Simmons and Susan Purse, in June 2015 – the company was inspired by a long-running Finnish tradition, where the government sends expectant mothers a box containing a selection of baby related items, to help get them started.

The Founders decided to take a version of the concept to the UK and, since launching, people have enthusiastically taken to the idea.

Their baby box range includes five different packages, all containing carefully selected items. These include 100% organic cotton bedding, super soft clothes, Comfortchews from Cheeky Chompers and baby wheels from Chiggs, to help keep track of feeding your little one.

The range is designed to make shopping for your newborn as easy as possible and the box itself acts as a safe place for your baby to sleep, as long as you follow safe sleeping guidelines.

in 2019, British Baby Box launched a corporate maternity/paternity initiative, available to all companies wanting to provide a bespoke baby box gift to employees.

They’re also proud to be an official supplier to the Scottish Government to whom they delivered more than 100,000 baby boxes to in the first two years. You can find out more about Scotland’s baby box scheme here.

But how did they get where they are today?

In the early days, British Baby Box put themselves on the map by attending shows, such as The Baby Show at London Excel, and visited hospitals, including the Pre-Natal Conference at Queen’s Hospital in Romford Essex. From the very beginning, they championed Kicks Count and The Lullaby Trust, and they continue to do so today.

Closer to home, British Baby Box have supported charities like Alternatives Watford, who support vulnerable women in their community, and, using donations from across the country, sent boxes for babies left homeless as a result of the horrific fire at Grenfell Tower.

Unfortunately, Covid 19 has meant that the they have seen an increase in baby bank enquiries, which they are now tackling head on. They are working very closely with baby banks and other charities to provide thousands of baby boxes across the world.
