Lauras Christmasland Adventure: A Book Written By A Care Worker For His Residents

Care worker, Harry Killick has written his own Christmas book to cheer up his residents during the Covid19 festive season.

Harry Killick, a young man (25) who works as an activity worker at care home, Alne Hall in York – has achieved one of his life ambitions to write a book and publish a story, and it’s called Lauras Christmasland Adventure, which he wrote during the months of lockdown.

Harry explained: ‘Residents have had it really tough during the pandemic, so I just wanted to do something to get them in the Christmas mood. One of my ambitions has been to write a book and this seemed the perfect time to put pen to paper.’

“I have worked through the pandemic at Alne Hall and used my spare time to write the book. I have shared chapters with residents and they gave me plenty of feedback.’

Harry enthusiastically added: “I have now read the story to residents and their response has been overwhelming. They really enjoyed the story and are asking for a sequel – that might be my project for next year.

Lauras Christmasland adventure is about a young girl called Laura who suffers a tragedy at Christmas and then goes to live with her aunt and uncle, but a mysterious notebook arrives and sets Laura and her cousin off on an adventure.

Before working at Alne Hall and helping adults living with physical disabilities, Harry studied performing arts at Teesside University,

Alne Hall is part of the Valorum Care Group which operates schemes across Yorkshire and other parts of England.

Valorum Care Group Group’s Strategic Development Director Katie Drakeford proudly said: “Harry is a real inspiration. He has created a wonderful story that captures the essence of Christmas.

“Our staff have gone the extra mile to bring normality to residents’ lives during the pandemic. As we approach Christmas, the efforts of Harry and all our staff are so important as we try to give residents Christmas as it should be.
