Aquarium Design Company, ViDERE – Donates State-Of-The-Art Fish Tanks To Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Leading aquarium design company, ViDERE has donated three of its innovative fish tanks to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital – as a thank you to key workers for their dedication during the pandemic.

ViDERE’s ethos is centred around the principles of “biophillia,” and their unique design approach combines natural elements with contemporary design, to improve happiness in the workplace.

The company specialises in state-of-the-art aquariums, incorporating all aspects of ecology into concept design, product development and project management, with a particular focus on encouraging people to feel more connected with nature.

ViDERE’s Founder and aquarium designer, Akil Gordon-Beckford explains:

“Anyone who has worked in hospitals during the pandemic will have experienced stress levels like never before: These are the NHS staff who have been at the sharp end of Coronavirus since March. Our team wanted to thank the NHS staff for the sacrifices they have made by giving them something that would help to reduce their stress levels, and help them smile while they are at work.”

He also said:

“A lot of what we do is about promoting positive spaces and ensuring staff mental health is at the top of the agenda. Research consistently indicates that implementing design features, such as aquariums and other elements of nature, can really help boost happiness. They have a unique way of transforming an environment by adding light, colour and movement: they capture people’s attention and connect them to nature, making them feel calmer and more relaxed.

The three tanks will be placed in the staff wellbeing hub at the hospital, and will feature a 240 litre saltwater aquarium with fish and coral, and two 30 litre desktop aquariums, with fish and aquatic plants.

Following the donation of the first three tanks, ViDERE has pledged to provide even more fish tanks to NHS services across the region, and to help ensure that these work-spaces are offering positive spaces for our NHS staff, you can contribute to the cause by supporting ViDERE and its mission, via the Go Fund Me page, here.

Launched in 2018, ViDERE’s focus is to help corporations and SME’s to improve the working environment of their employees by integrating the natural art of an aquarium as a tool for improving staff well-being and retention.

Each premium ViDERE aquarium comes as a 700mm tall tank on a 1000mm tall cabinet, and features high quality ‘low iron’ glass that is fabricated with no impurities, resulting in no colour distortion, and remarkable clarity.

Founded by Akil Gordon-Beckford, a passionate aquarist and designer, ViDERE has gone from strength to strength since launching, – hosting multiple art installations, podcast episodes, and working on high profile projects across the globe.

Akil became an aquarium designer, because he wanted to share his fascination with nature with the world, and its infinite sources of inspiration. This has shaped the brand’s ethos through their principles of ‘biophilia’, which combines natural elements and contemporary designs to improve everyday life.

After 15 years of designing and installing aquariums into people’s homes and businesses, Akil started his own entrepreneurial adventure in 2018 to immerse himself into his passion.

More recently, the brand has been shortlisted for the SBID’s Product Design Awards under the ‘Contract Furniture’ and ‘Cabinet & Joinery’ categories, in recognition of its installation at Birmingham-based digital agency, Lightbox and a saltwater tank commissioned by a private client in Hertfordshire.
