‘BEEN’ Has Just Launched Their Limited Edition ‘MEL X BEEN’ Recycled Bag(s) (In Partnership With Amelia Windsor)

Model and eco-activist, Amelia Windsor, – has partnered with the award-winning sustainable fashion brand, BEEN, – to design (and launch) a brand new, limited-edition recycled bag.

‘Mel x BEEN London’ is a unique design collaboration between Amelia Windsor (Mel), and BEEN London, – an award-winning British brand that makes accessories entirely from recycled materials.

Launched on Earth Day, April 22nd (2021), the limited edition bag is available exclusively on Been.london, where each (and every) bag is hand-made in London, from waste that would otherwise – have ended up in landfill.

BEEN utilises innovative sustainable materials and practices, with options including: vegan leather made from surplus apples, to luxurious cotton linings made from recycled clothing.

I really admire BEEN London’s solution-driven approach to our global waste problem,” said Amelia. “Using classic designs, artisanal craftsmanship, and innovative recycled materials to create beautiful bags that look and feel incredible, but are actually made from ‘waste,’ was something I wanted to be part of,” she said.

Genia Mineeva, The Founder and Creative Director of BEEN London, added:

We have loved working with Mel to bring her ideas and dream bag(s) to life. From working together on the original sketches, to choosing the finest sustainable materials available, AND perfecting the tiny details in our East London workshop with our makers. I have always admired Amelia’s work within sustainability, especially pioneering small independent brands like us, so we feel very humbled to have had this opportunity. “

The limited edition crossbody bag (made from leather offcuts) features a bright pink lining made from recycled polyester, and it includes an interior zipped pocket and scrunchie to keep your reusable water bottle and coffee cup in place.

With just 100 bags available, there is also the unique option to have your bag personalised with your initials, embossed by hand in BEEN London’s workshop.

Also, with each purchase, one Moringa tree will be planted in partnership with the non-profit organisation Tree-Nation, – who support(s) native communities in the Amazon. The Moringa Oleifera tree (otherwise known as the miracle tree) is one of the most nutrient-dense trees, prized for centuries for its healing properties.

BEEN was Founded in 2018, with a desire to change the way we view waste, and the brand was born following a former BBC journalist’s (Genia) instinct to dig deeper into the global waste pandemic. And after researching (and realising) that you can purchase materials on their way to landfill, with endless opportunities to innovate and repurpose, Genia Mineeva decided to embark on a new career.

BEEN London won the Drapers Start Up Award 2020, for sustainable innovation.
