Meet Hemp MVMNT: The World’s FIRST EVER Hemp Watch Brand

Hemp MVMNT is the Scottish start-up that everyone is talking about: they’re just about to launch the world’s FIRST EVER hemp watch: stylish, sustainable and eco-friendly.

The brand utilises pioneering sustainable processes to produce goods that are 100% vegan and ethically-sourced. Having already launched their hemp glass-frames collection, the brand has now launched a crowdfunding campaign to help fund the launch of their innovative new watch concept.

Based in Edinburgh, Hemp MVMNT is aiming to showcase (and promote) the use of alternative eco-materials, and a more sustainable lifestyle, – through their high-end, unique hemp watches and eyewear products.

The start-up was launched as a new venture alongside Hemp Eyewear, – a company that was launched 7 years ago by Sam Whitten. During the COVID19 pandemic, the team behind Hemp Eyewear (and Hemp MVMNT) got to work, and they designed, prototyped AND developed their new brand hemp watches to the highest quality, having already raised over £17k through their first Kickstarter campaign. And that’s how Hemp MVMNT was born.

The hemp used in their products is grown and harvested in Europe. The watches also use a supple pineapple leather, meaning that the entire watch is 100% vegan. This leather alternative is made from the fibre of pineapple leaves that typically piles up as a direct result of agricultural waste.

Sam Whitten started Hemp Eyewear as a creation out of his final major project at University whilst he was studying a BA in Product Design. Inspired by his desire to find long-term sustainable solutions (after learning about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch), he initially started out by creating glasses frames from recycled plastics, but after more research, he quickly pivoted into hemp, instead.

‘I’ve been incredibly lucky to have built such a strong team in the last couple of years,” said Sam. “Running this start-up wasn’t easy in the beginning, but more and more people are turning to sustainable solutions, and hemp has so much to offer: it is renewable, eco-friendly, and it can be used to make a wide variety of materials types.”

The last year has given us the opportunity to explore hemp’s uses, and we can now expand our product range from eyewear to hemp watches, and soon we are launching our design studio to develop new products for other businesses,” he added.

To date, the brand has amassed a large social media following, and they’ve been featured various high profile publications. Hemp MVMNT has also partnered with 1% For The Planet, giving 1% of each watch sale to approved environmental non-profit organisations. Now, their beautiful green watches are available for pre-order on their crowdfunding page, with the first shipping dates expected for December 2021.
