BEPPS Snacks Has Introduced A Healthier New Way To Snack, – With Their Plant-Based Pea, Pulse And Grain Snacks.

The London-based food start-up, BEPPS Snacks, – is on a mission to change how we snack, with their delicious range of plant-based pea, pulse and grain snacks.

Founded by Eve Yankah in 2017, the Great Taste Award winning brand is pioneering healthy, plant-based snacks that are loved by the whole family. Inspired by her daughter, Giselle (who loves eating crisps), Eve created BEPPS after recognising the need for a healthier, more inclusive snack for her child. Her lightbulb moment occurred when she remembered how much she loved eating black eyed peas whilst she was growing up.

Eve is a serial entrepreneur who previously launched her own nail polish brand. With BEPPS Snacks, she set out to find the best manufacturer she could, – to produce a brand new range of black eyed pea-based snacks.

After nine months of building her supply chain, the first batch of BEPPS Snacks samples was came to light back in September 2017, – three months before Eve welcomed her second child, Ozzy. Her delicious, ‘better for you’ snacks are vegan friendly, gluten-free, and contain just 90 calories (or less) per serving.

The range includes:

  • The classically moreish Cheese Puffs (made with vegan cheese),
  • The feisty Sweet Chili Puffs (with that ever so pleasing balance of sweet and spicy flavours),
  • Their most recent flavour, Salt + Vinegar Puffs (deliciously sharp and tangy),
  • And more.

Ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy, BEPPS has also just introduced their brand new crunchy and light Popped Salt + Black Pepper Chips, and their smoky and sweet Popped BBQ Chips. Not only are these snacks filling, nutritious, and delicious with fibre-rich pea, pulse and grain, – but they’re a low GI alternative to the more traditional high-calorie and saturated fat, potato based snacks,

AND they’re ethical: with BEPPS Snacks’ ethos centered around ‘better for you,’ accessible food, Eve believes in the importance of creating a better world. So far, over 60,000 packs of BEPPS snacks have been donated to food banks via City Harvest in London, and nationwide via Woman’s Aid UK.

Eve also believes that a good education should be every child’s right. Sales of BEPPS Snacks also contribute to the St Nicholas Mission Academy in Ghana, – a school that strives to create a safe environment for children to learn by receiving free primary school education. BEPPS sponsors five children to receive free education, nutritious meals, safe drinking water, basic healthcare, and of course, – BEPPS Snacks all year round.

Furthermore, the brand has just received a £400,000 investment from the early-stage venture capital investors, Ascension Ventures, – who seeks to back entrepreneurs making healthy eating accessible to all, with the ‘Good Food Fund.’ Emma Steele, an Investment Director at Ascension Ventures said:

The Good Food Fund is all about supporting innovative approaches to tackling social inequalities in food, including childhood obesity. BEPPS is building its brand as a fantastic and great tasting healthy snack, but also at an affordable price, using very simple and under-utilised ingredients. Backing the right founder is key, and we are excited to be on board this journey with Eve. She is a strong leader, and she has a great clarity of vision for scaling the business.”

BEPPS Snacks’ Founder, Eve Yankah added: “We’ve made some exciting investments in D2C this past year (since Covid-19), – that are starting to pay off. D2C is our fastest growing channel alongside grocery. Also, we’ve seen our Amazon sales increase by over 300% in the past six months alone. The new funds will be used to further accelerate our D2C growth alongside more trade marketing investment.”

BEPPS can now be found in over 4,000 stockists across grocery, high-street, OOH and online, in Tesco, Asda, Ocado, Amazon, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, and via the BEPPS Snacks’ online store.
