Koskenkorva: The World’s “Most Sustainable Vodka?”

Koskenkorva Vodka Climate Action is a BRAND NEW Finnish spirit that’s just launched in the UK.

It’s widely tipped to be the hottest serve in town, thanks to being a true world-first. Not only does the bottle contain the smoothest single-estate vodka to have ever been exported from the Nordics, but it’s sustainable, as it’s made from a unique method using regeneratively-farmed barley that helps to fight climate change: the only barley-based vodka in the world that’s made this way.

Smooth and creamy, with peppery spice throughout the palette, the one-of-a-kind method produces a premium taste that has already got London’s best bartenders buzzing. But better still, its regenerative farming aims to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and store it in the ground, creating carbon sinks that reduces the impact of climate change.

The process improves biodiversity, stops nutrients leaking into water bodies, and provides better crops at the same time. Indeed, if all the farmers in the world swapped to regenerative farming, together we could remove up to 322 billion tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. That’s nearly as much as we emit globally in 10 years.

Unlike many sustainable drinks, its environmentally-sound production methods don’t come at the expense of incredible flavour, as this dry, delicate drink from Finland more than proves.

Vegan, gluten, and GMO-free, the innovative unflavoured vodka has soft and subtle notes of vanilla, caramel and white flowers, making it seriously clean and crisp on the palette. With hints of cereal and herbs, there’s character alongside its purity, and is perfect poured straight-up over ice, or as part of a classic cocktail paired with earthy charcuterie or tangy pickles.

Koskenkorva is the brand owned by Anora – a newly formed company by the merge of Nordic drinks companies Altia and Arcus. Anora was born through the merger of Altia and Arcus 1st of September 2021. Anora is a leading wine and spirits brand house in the Nordic region and a global industry forerunner in sustainability.

Anora, the company behind Koskenkorva is a forerunner in sustainability believes that life is to be enjoyed, but not at the expense of our planet. The company has launched a sustainability roadmap for 2030 having the circular economy and carbon neutral operations in the core of our operations.

“UK consumers are at the forefront of the sustainability movement, and the UK is a very influential market for spirits globally. Together with our distributor Indie Brands, we have systematically built the Koskenkorva brand in the UK market for a few years. We are excited to take this next step together by launching the world’s first vodka made from regeneratively farmed barley, Koskenkorva Vodka Climate Action,” said Pontus Forth, Anora’s Export Director

The ambition? To make Koskenkorva the most sustainable vodka in the world – and to lay claim to carbon-neutral production by 2025. A sip with substance, giving those who drink it the power to fight climate-change in the palm of their hand. We’ll certainly raise a toast to that!

Mikael Karttunen, global brand ambassador, said: “With Koskenkorva Vodka Climate Action, we are using a batch of single-estate barley that ferments a little bit differently to others, so we take a more hands-on approach in the process. You can taste the barley in the vodka, but it still has the same purity it’s becoming famous for!”
