The Queen’s Grocer, Partridges Celebrates Its 50th Christmas

Partridges (the speciality food grocer, and a Royal Warrant Holder) is celebrating its 50th Christmas in Chelsea, with an event, a Hamper and a Chelsea Bun Gin.

Partridges opened its doors on the 25th May in 1972 on Sloane Street. In 2004, it moved 500 yards to the Duke of York Square (where it is still located today). In 1998, Partridges opened a second store in Gloucester Road, Kensington. The stores stock 10,000+ fine food and drinks products, and they’re open from 7.30/8am-10pm Monday-Sunday, with FREE local delivery by Partridges’ own vans, and an online shop.

To celebrate their 50th Christmas this year, Partridges has launched a brand new Golden Anniversary Hamper, which contains a bottle of prosecco and half a bottle of champagne, as well as other fine foods and drinks, – making it the idea gift this Christmas.

When you give the gift of a Christmas hamper, you are following a tradition which dates back to 1066, when wicker hampers filled with delicious treats, – were given as a charitable offering to the poor. Nowadays, Christmas hampers (packed full of delicious food and drink) makes for a wonderful presents for family and friends.

Partridges’ wide selection of readily-prepared hampers and bespoke hampers each includes either a beautiful wicker hamper, or a festive bright red, eco-friendly box. The puffy peanut-shaped hamper packaging is 100% biodegradable from renewable sources, and it can be dissolved in water, AND it’s compostable. For delivery in time this Christmas, ALL orders should be placed and completed by the 5th December (overseas), and the 12th December (UK Mainland).

PLEASE NOTE: Orders can be sent after these dates, but delivery cannot be guaranteed before Christmas. Also, due to ongoing supply issues, Partridges may need to substitute items in the hampers with other items of equivalent value.

Also new for this Christmas, is the Partridges’ Chelsea Bun Gin (which contains the delicious fruit flavours of oranges, sultanas, and all-spice, – inspired by Chelsea Buns). Each May, Partridges sponsors the World Chelsea Bun Awards, sells Chelsea Buns in its stores, and is fast becoming the home of the iconic Chelsea Bun.

The new Chelsea Bun Gin joins Partridges’ two other house gins: the Original Chelsea Flower Gin (which was launched in May 2017 to celebrate its 45th Anniversary), and the No.2 Chelsea Flower Gin (which was launched in May 2018). Each of the limited-edition bottles (created in collaboration with the Dunnet Bay Distillers in Scotland) is hand filled, numbered by hand, and is sealed with wax.

Also, a brand new Christmas shop has opened in Partridges’ Duke of York Square store, which is full of gift ideas, advent calendars, gingerbread houses, Christmas chocolates, sweets, decorations, and more.
