Lockabox: Affordable, Carefully-designed Lockable Products.

Based in the South West, Lockabox was set up in 2013 by Peter Morris, because he was tired of people stealing his food whilst he was at University.

Lockabox’s journey started when a University student named Peter Morris grew tired of his food being stolen from his shared fridge whilst he was living in student accommodation. A lightbulb moment occurred, and Peter decided to search for a solution, but he couldn’t find one, and this was when he quickly realised that there was a huge gap in the market for something new: everyday lockable storage.

Product development began in 2014, and in 2015, he was able to secure a contract with John Lewis.

The product went on sale in John Lewis in the summer of 2015, however unfortunately, Peter was unprepared for the POS and the advertising required, and as a one-man band, he struggled to provide assets, which was an important lesson for any young entrepreneur. Not letting this scupper his confidence or his passion for the product, Lockabox launched online in 2016, and since then, they have grown exponentially, with HUGE success in Europe and America. 

But with expansion also came great lessons. Peter realised how versatile the product is, and he noticed a huge gap in the healthcare market, which has since gone on to become the largest sector they sell into. The Lockabox One is primarily used by parents, due to its versatility.

Being a parent is tiring enough already, WITHOUT having to worry about your children exploring the kitchen when your back is turned. The lockable medicine boxes are light enough to be kept away from wandering fingers, and a three-digit combination lock makes them safe, – even when they are in reach).

Peter Morris studied music at University. He was following his dream of becoming an international DJ, after deciding to leave a successful carpentry business that he had formed in his hometown in Kingsbridge, Devon. However, his life changed unexpectedly, and so, it was time to say goodbye to the decks, and say hello to storage boxes.

“Lockabox has been my life’s work, and since the day I had the idea in my bedroom whilst at University, it has become harder and harder to stay in front of. It has taken a journey of its own, and our customers are leading the way. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved, and the last few years of international sales and market experience have put us in a very fortunate position,” said Peter.

“Knowing what we know now, lockable storage is a huge developing category, and we now have the insights to know what is possible. Therefore, it’s time to innovate this exciting new space, through the best, most convenient, accessible, and valued lockable storage concepts in the world,” he added.

“And this is just the beginning. It’s as if the years since John Lewis and our UK launch have been R&D in this new global category. The world is about to receive a future household brand, recognised alongside the likes of Tupperware, Pyrex and Lock n Lock. This is where Lockabox® is headed in the next 10 to 20 years, but we’ll start with being the #1 in global lockable storage for now,” he added.

Lockabox has sold over 100,000 units of their unique lockable storage boxes, worldwide. They’ve expanded from a team of 1 to 8, and now, they’re entering into an exciting new phase of business, with plans to crowdfund this year.
