Presto Coffee (the Ethical Coffee Start-up) Is Now A B-Corp!

Presto (the London-based, ethical coffee start-up) is now a B-Corp! Impressively, they’re one of a small handful of British coffee brands to achieve this status.

“After a year of intensive work and rigorous examination, we are SO excited to finally be a part of a global movement of leaders that uses business as a force for good. Being recognised as a certified B Corp, – is validation that the transparent, sustainable business we’ve been working so hard to create has been worthwhile,” said Presto’s Founder, James Hagerty.

Presto were awarded with a high, 92.3 B Impact Score, for:

1. The way in which they source their coffee from a small number of carefully-selected farmers (whilst working with respected organisations, such as the Rainforest Alliance), 2. For being one of the 1% of producers globally that responsibly air-roasts their beans to minimise waste heat and carbon emissions, and 3. For partnering with 1% For the Planet, Ecologi, Trees For Cities, and Taking Root.

“Welcoming Presto to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. As a challenger brand, their commitment towards doing business differently should be an inspiration to others. Hopefully, this will help to spread the idea that we can redefine success to be as much about people and the planet, as profit,” said Chris Turner, the Executive Director at B Lab UK.

Ethics and sustainability are a core part of Presto’s DNA. Since launching in 2018, they’ve been shaking up the coffee industry. James Hagerty felt as though the sector had become overly complex, and was running behind in terms of it’s ecological commitments and progress.

Presto holds a deep-rooted relationship with its coffee farmers. The brand works with respected organisations (such as the Rainforest Alliance) to ensure that farmers are paid the best possible price, AND given the best possible training (educating them on climate-smart, regenerative growing practices), – boosting their yields, and income.

Presto’s products come in a 100% kerbside recyclable packaging, making it as easy as possible for customers to do their bit for the environment. As a result, Presto provides a simple, yet perfectly-formed collection of delicious gourmet coffee for every kind of coffee drinker, whilst being both people and planet-friendly.

Having always been a foodie and an avid coffee drinker, James knew after studying Business at the University of Essex, that he wanted to go into the Food and Beverage industry, and more specifically, into coffee. He enjoyed an initial foray into the world of caffeine as an intern at the now defunct Tasteworks, before working as a consultant for various food brands, including Ember Snacks (where he was responsible for their Amazon channels).
