Refillable Candles: Meet Pott Candles’ Founder, Ailis Topley

29 year old Ailis Topley (who was announced as a ‘Forbes 30 under 30’) created her popular refillable candle brand, Pott Candles, in lock-down in November 2020.

The former strategy consultant from Matlock turned her lock-down candle making hobby into a business that generated over $1.3 million in sales in 2021.

Pott Candles is on a mission to reduce candle pot waste. They achieve this by providing an innovative refill service.

Customers will only have to purchase one candle, which they can then refill over time, with custom made candle refills available in nine different scents (Lavendula, Terra, Eden, Fig, Orangery, Basil and Eucalyptus, and an unscented option), and four different designs (white, blush, heather, and speckle).

The candles come with a 60 hour burn time.

The products are made with sustainable rapeseed and coconut wax, natural essential oils, sustainable fragrance oils, and they’re vegan friendly. Also, if you’re a prolific candle user, Pott has a subscription service, too. Then there’s an additional range of accessories, including wick trimmers, wick dippers, candle snuffers, and more.

“We’ve created a product that fixes the issue of clutter from used candle jars. Pott means you’ll only need one candle for the rest of your life. Pott’s foundations are rooted in two very simple ideas – love your planet, and support local artisan makers. We’re delighted to offer a sustainable yet simple solution for high quality candles with as little impact on the environment as possible,” said Ailis.

Furthermore, this summer, Pott Candles is teaming up with Young Minds.

Young Minds provides young people with the tools to look after their mental health. To mark the launch, the brand has released a brand new Limited Edition Change Candle, with a scent called ‘Tropic.’ Tropic has a lovely fresh lemongrass and lime scent. It’s Pott’s take on Citronella, and it can be burned inside or outside.
