Handmade Stories Is Opening Their First Ever Pop-Up Store.

Handmade Stories (the fashion brand) is opening their first ever pop-up, ‘Pop Up For Change,’ on the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend, at 283 Hackney Road.

The public are invited to their launch party on Thursday 9th June at 283 Hackney Road, which kicks off at 6pm. Ethical fashion enthusiasts will have the opportunity to browse a unique range of womenswear, jewellery, accessories, and homeware, all of which have been handmade, to make a difference in the world.

Handmade Stories came to life at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in Peru, thanks to its creator Elena Brook-Hart Rodriguez, who formerly worked as a strategist at advertising agencies such as Wunderman Thompson, and TBWA (in London).

The brand started, because Elena was volunteering with women in rural communities of the Andes when the pandemic hit, and despite the volunteering organisation closing operations and asking volunteers to go home, she decided to stay to create her own platform to help these women and other disadvantaged groups prosper.

Handmade Stories is a female-owned social enterprise that’s passionate about sharing women’s stories to empower them, and to help them to become financially independent. Now, this conscious business sells worldwide through their online store, and they’ve been featured in several publications.

We have open conversations about pricing with the people we work with. Some of them need help calculating their costs, and we help them to figure out what they should be charging. I hope we can see them prosper, and help more people who are seeking economic independence,” said Elena.

Throughout the month, Handmade Stories will also be hosting a series of workshops that will showcase sustainable skills, from how to upcycle your wardrobe, to embroidery, to mending. Also, the brand will be hosting panel discussions alongside their workshops, to highlight the strong women behind their products, to raise awareness, and to educate people on how they can play a role in supporting them.

Pop-up For Change’ will be open to the general public in the month of June, and information on all workshops and events, including how to buy tickets can be found here.
