Valentina Karellas: Unisex Knitwear That’s Handmade To Order

Founded in 2016, Valentina Karellas created her eponymous brand with a sustainable purpose, using surplus yarns that would have gone to waste.

After graduating from her knitwear degree from the London College of Fashion in 2006 (and a masters degree in knitwear in Italy in 2007), Valentina went on to work in Italy, China and the UK – as a Designer for multiple high street suppliers. This is where she discovered the ins and outs of how fashion is produced, and the true cost of fast fashion.

Valentina saw first hand how garments were made, and the extensive level of waste in production, and she knew that she could make a difference, by finding a very simple way to make beautiful pieces, without harming the planet.

Since launching, Valentina has salvaged over 200,000kg of waste yarn from landfill, which she’s used to make conscious pieces that people genuinely want. There is no stock of finished items, and everything is made to order.

“Every piece I make has a story, making slow, purposeful clothing, one piece at a time,” said Valentina.

To date, Valentina’s brand has been featured in the BBC, The Guardian, The Independent, Drapers, the Daily Mail, and more.
