Kind Bag: From Recycled Plastic Bottles To Eco-Friendly Bags

Founded in 2019, Kind Bag has reused 3.5 million plastic bottles, thanks to its revolutionary recycling initiative, that turns bottles into eco-friendly bags.

The brand was launched specifically for the purpose of reducing single-use plastic.

Each bag is created, using a process that transforms these plastic bottles into a practical, durable fabric, called RPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate). The bags are design-led, stylish, eco-friendly, lightweight, durable, and water resistant.

In the past year, Kind Bag’s product range has expanded out to backpacks, not to mention a successful collaboration with William Morris (the 19th century’s most celebrated British textile designer).

Here at Kind Bag, we’re motivated by a passion to protect our environment. Our already recycled, recyclable products go some way to eliminate the plastic waste that exists in society today. I’m beyond thrilled to have recycled over 3.5 million plastic bottles in only two years of Kind Bag being on the market. We’re also proud to support 1% For The Planet,” said Kind Bags’ Founder, Maria Rodriguez.

Growing up close to the Canary Island’s beautiful beaches, 31-year-old Maria Rodriguez (who has lived in London since 2015) developed an early appreciation of the natural world. Initially a career in law beckoned, but following a stint of travelling around Asia, her eyes were opened to the effects of plastic pollution.

I fell in love with an amazing continent, but it was sadly covered in plastic. Everywhere you went, there were used plastic bottles and bags littering public spaces and plastic fragments on the beaches. This was my wake-up call,” said Maria.

So Maria decided to focus her efforts, by designing a product that would help to reduce this plastic mountain. And after struggling to find a shopping bag that was strong enough to fit her grocery shopping and belongings in, that looked good, the idea for Kind Bag was born.

Kind Bag has had a strong second year of growth, turning over an impressive £651,000. Growth was fuelled by a growing export market, which saw new distribution channels open up in the US and Australia, and in European countries such as Spain, Italy, and Germany, with the brand now exporting to over 25+ countries worldwide.
