Shinjuku Lanes: Divine Tasseled Scarves (Inspired By Tokyo).

Set up in late 2021 (by Jennifer Yamamoto), Shinjuku Lanes makes stunning scarves that feature divine patterns which were inspired by the colorful city of Tokyo.

The scarves are made from recycled plastic bottles, using waste material that would have ended up in the ocean, or in landfill.

They’re the perfect eco-friendly vegan alternative, with a fluffy texture. They’re ideal for those with sensitive skin, or with an allergy to wool.

More recently, Shinjuku Lanes launched their new collection – REplaid – which consists of over-sized plaid scarves that have been made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. The new collection includes four fluffy tasseled scarves, with a contemporary take on a classic design, with direct inspiration from Japan.

Although Shinjuku Lanes’ Founder, Jennifer Yamamoto worked as a personal stylist for a year in her late 20’s, she spent most of her career in healthcare communications, where she ran the PR for pharmaceutical companies. “It was fast-paced, challenging, and hugely rewarding, but ultimately, it lacked the creatively and freedom I craved,” said Jennifer.

“It had long been a pipe-dream of mine to design accessories, and to run my own brand, but it wasn’t until lock-down that I thought, ‘if I don’t make this into a reality this now, will it ever happen?’ A few months later, I quit my job, and I enrolled onto a textile pattern design course,” added Jennifer.

Half-british and Japanese, Jennifer’s inspiration comes from London and Tokyo’s aesthetics. “The expressive fashion, the mix of hyper modern and traditional culture, plus their celebration of nature and the seasons is so unique,” said Jennifer.

Shinjuku Lanes were featured in Hello! magazine for their Rio sarong.
