Purely: Plantain Chips (With 30% Less Fat Than Potato Crisps)

Purely: an independent specialist producer of plantain chips (a healthier alternative to potato crisps – containing 30% less fat, WITHOUT compromising on taste).

The chips are made with a sustainably-sourced plantain that’s grown and produced by small plantation farmers in Ecuador. Not only does this process ensure that the chips are deliciously authentic, BUT it also enables Purely to support the local community and its economy, too.

The chips are available in a variety of delicious flavours, including Wild Garlic, Nice & Spicy, and Sea Salt. They’re the perfect healthy and environmentally-friendly snack alternative to potato crisps. They’re free from gluten, wheat, sugar, additives, dairy, palm oil, and trans fats, and they come with a 12-month shelf life.

The brand was founded in 2018 by Stefania Pellegrino, who grew up in Italy. Stefania has a Master’s degree in International Business and Modern Languages. Her first job in a fresh produce business allowed her to travel extensively around South and Central America. She fell in love with the continent.

Purely’s dedication to making the world a better place doesn’t stop at the ingredients list, either.

The brand has partnered with an orphanage, named Casa Hagar de Belen in Portoviejo – the same town as its production plant, which provides a safe space for up to 45 children who have experienced extreme trauma. Every packet of Purely bought passionately supports this cause.

We started to make plantain chips because we wanted to create a healthier alternative to potato crisps, and we wanted to reach out to a wider audience, as we know how delicious this unsung, yet more nutritious cousin of the banana is. We also wanted to support local towns and communities that we work with – to create a truly sustainable business,” said Stef.

Purely won a Great Taste Award in 2019, and they were a finalist at the Health & Wellbeing Awards 2021.
