Unhidden’s Adaptive Fashion Is Heading To London Fashion Week

Unhidden has announced that they’ll be holding their first ever full runway show at London Fashion Week on Friday 17th February (2023), at Kurt Geiger showroom.

Finally, socially responsible, adaptive fashion is heading to London Fashion Week.

  • Unhidden makes adaptive wear that’s fashionable and inclusive for a wide range of disabilities,
  • Unhidden aims to serve the 1 billion people globally who have a disability (which is 15% of the world’s population),
  • And, Unhidden is addressing the issues faced by: 1. wheelchair users, 2. those with limited dexterity, and 2. anyone who requires ports and monitors on different areas of the body.

At their LFW show in February (presented by Clearpay), Unhidden will:

  1. Launch a brand new collection, and:
  2. Unveil new partnerships with Lucy & Yak, Origin Africa, and Will Perry.

The show will feature over 30 models – all of whom live with a disability, a chronic condition, or a visible difference. The event is sponsored by Kurt Geiger London, SIC, Kiss and Make Up, The Seam, and Universal Inclusion.

Unhidden’s founder and designer Victoria Jenkins is a disabled woman with 15 years in the industry, who’s worked for brands such as AllSaints, Victoria Beckham, and Me+Em. Victoria was diagnosed with multiple gastrointestinal conditions after life-saving surgery in 2012, resulting in chronic pain – and a reduced mobility.

During a conversation at one of her hospital stays in 2016, Victoria discovered a huge gap in the market for fashionable adaptive wear, that would help the millions of disabled people in the UK (and globally) to retain their dignity, and their sense of style.

Unhidden practices radical transparency when it comes to their garment workers, pricing, and fabric sourcing. Everything is made from dead-stock fabric – with future plans to join rental platforms, Loanhood and Little Loops. With exclusive licensing rights for Paw Patrol and SpongeBob SquarePants, Unhidden will also be launching a new kids adaptive wear line. Both are set for launch this SS23.

“After years of development and research into adaptive design, being able to finally produce a runway show, and work with a household brand like Kurt Geiger London, as well as well known disability advocates and models like Essie Dennie, Lucy Dawson, Isaac Harvey MBE, Josh Wintersgill, and Shani Dhanda – is a dream come true,” said Victoria.

“The time for true inclusion is now. I am so excited to see the industry begin to embrace the disabled and chronic sick community, and I’m equally excited to launch our kids adaptive range, too. Not being able to dress the same as your friends, especially as children – is heartbreaking. I will not stand by and allow it to continue,” added Victoria.

“Unhidden’s raison d’etre is not only inspiring, but it’s also necessary. People with disabilities are too often excluded from the fashion sphere, and it’s essential that we all join forces to help change this,” said Rebecca Farrar-Hockley (Kurt Geiger’s Chief Creative Officer).

“Kurt Geiger is a vocal advocate of diversity, inclusivity, and equality, and many of our accessories have been designed with close attention to comfort and functionality, so that everyone, including those with disabilities can wear them. We’re really proud to be partnering with Unhidden at London Fashion Week,” added Rebecca.

“We are so excited to be partnering with Unhidden at London Fashion Week. Our clothes are made with comfort in mind, and we aim for as many people to be able to wear them as possible, but by going a step further by partnering with Unhidden – allows them to be altered, so that they’re really built for people with disabilities,” said Lucy and Yak‘s Lucy Greenwood.

“I am so excited to be partnering up with Unhidden for London Fashion Week 2023. It has been a dream that I thought would never come to light, but here we are, and I am so excited for you all to see the work that we have come up with together,” said Will Perry, the Paralympian.

“I am so proud to have worked with Unhidden to create fashion for individuals with dwarfism. For so long, it has been so hard and so expensive to find the right clothes, and I hope that this will bring us one step closer to a reality of comfortable and accessible clothes for people with dwarfism,” added Will.

Unhidden has won multiple awards, and they’ve appeared all over the media.
