Dragons’ Den: Sara Davies Invests £80k Into ‘Grow So Simple’

Grow So Simple and Newcastle-based Dan Robson secured an £80k investment from his fellow North East entrepreneur, Sara Davies – after appearing on Dragons’ Den.

Dan (who runs the company with his graphic designer brother, Joe) created Grow So Simple back in 2014.

Sara Davies saw huge potential in the business.

“I liked Dan the moment I met him and I really resonated with his commitment to giving all people, from all walks of life, the chance to grow their own vegetables. This level of passion, along with a strong concept, is critical for business success so I’m looking forward to seeing him developing and growing his fantastic brand,” said Sara.

“Entering the Den is very different to watching it at home; it was by far one of the challenging experiences of my life, but I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Investment from Sara is the absolute dream having witnessed what she has achieved for North East business,” said Dan.

The business was born out of Dan’s long-running passion for sustainability and gardening, coupled with a desire to make gardening more accessible. The seed for his business idea took root whilst he was taking part in Guerilla Gardening projects, when he was studying at Northumbria University – back in 2001.

Now, ‘Grow Sow Simple’ has multiple ranges on offer – enabling everyone and anyone to effortlessly cultivate vegetables, herbs, and botanicals. This includes their signature biodegradable ‘SeedCell’ item (which can be pushed straight into MicroGrow kits – for small scale, indoor gardening).

The products are sold nationally and internationally, and they’re designed and manufactured at the company’s 6000 square foot HQ in Newcastle (using 100% recyclable, plastic-free materials).
