Brooklyn Brownie Co. (The American Owned Father + Son Bakery)

“Taking the UK sweet tooth market by storm…” Brooklyn Brownie Co. is owned by a 41-year-old native New Yorker and father, John G. Lashley, and his son, Leo.

“My son and I started a little business from our home – with 50 bucks, a 2-litre plastic jug, and a fork,” said the American-born, Northampton-based father, founder, and ex-digital consultant.

It all started in the summer of 2019, when John and Leo devised some uniquely-shaped, rich chocolatey treats…

“Initially, I used the plain brownies as incentive treats – to bribe the digital teams I worked with – to stay later on a Friday,” confessed John.

Sadly, Leo’s mother (a mental health nurse) took her own life just days after Brooklyn Brownie Co. was set up. Baking and working on the business together helped John and Leo to get through this extremely difficult time.

“If we didn’t have Brooklyn Brownie Co. to keep us going, distract, and help us to open up and communicate, I don’t think we would’ve gotten through the summer of 2019,” confessed John.

During his first year of trading, at the young age of just 12 years old – Leo became the youngest person in the U.K. to win not one, but TWO entrepreneur awards.

Also, Brooklyn Brownie Co. won the Excellence Awards in 2020, and a few days ago, they discovered that they’re a finalist at the Prestige Awards, too.
