Portable Porter Company: The First Luggage On Wheels – Ever.

Herbert filed the world’s first patent for wheeled luggage in 1948 – designing and engineering his products in the UK, and later on, manufacturing in Sheffield.

The Portable Porter Company has a rich and long history. The brand was established in 1948 by Herbert Ernest Mingo – the first man to put wheels on luggage.

During the peak of the 2020 COVID-19 crisis, The Portable Porter Company went through a breath of fresh entrepreneurial air, thanks to Herbert’s grandson, Josh, who analysed the current market, and identified that luggage lacked expression and identity.

Whilst conducting a survey that consisted of a sample of 100 people, he noticed how consumers lacked engagement with their luggage, so… he put the wheels in motion, and he set about learning everything there is to know about the luggage industry – evolving what was left behind by his granddad, into a loud and creative luggage brand.

“Our NEW mission is to connect consumers with their luggage – brightening luggage carousels worldwide,” said Josh.

Josh was already well-versed into how to re-brand his grandfather’s Company, as he studied industrial design at the University of Leeds – specializing in product design. Also, he had spent the previous decade working in the super yacht sector, which gave him the travel experience required – to focus on travel products, too.

Now, The Portable Porter Company’s luggage is made with a new type of eco-friendly textile material, which is made from plastic bottles – saving 80% of energy, compared to previous creation processes.

The luggages are used worldwide, and more notably, by famous names, such as the Everton FC player, Tom Davies.
