Woven Home: Home Goods – Made From Macramé/Tapestry Weaving.

Woven Home‘s Simon Middleton and Maryanne Corringham create their luxury goods – using traditional macramé and tapestry weaving, and rigid-heddle loom weaving.

Launched in 2020, ‘Woven Home’ is the creation of the husband-and-wife duo, Simon Middleton, and Maryanne Corringham.

Simon has a background in apparel and textiles (he’s the founder of two made-in-Britain clothing brands, Shackleton and Blackshore), and Maryanne has always been a crafter.

The range includes ready-to-buy items (such as throws, blankets, shawls, macrame wall hangings, and woven tapestry), and made-to-order commissions – created in Beccles, on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.

I’ve become obsessed with the look, feel, and even the smell of wool. It is such an inspiring and evocative raw material, imbued with so much character and variation,” said Simon.

Working with it from an early stage, and doing all of the spinning of the yarn myself – with a traditional foot-powered spinning wheel, means that my pieces are uniquely ‘human scale.’ It’s a simple journey process-wise, from sheep to finished product, which makes each piece different from mass-manufactured garments and home-wares,” said Simon.

Living in a small market town in Suffolk, I’ve always been creative. I’ve experimented successfully with many crafts over the years, but weaving and macramé are now my passions,” said Maryanne , who also works part-time in education.

I have a rigid heddle loom, which I use to weave the scarves I sell, and several table looms of varying sizes – to weave my wall hangings with. I decided to experiment with modern tapestry weaving, because the colours and the textures excite me so much,” said Maryanne.

Woven Home has a lot to look forward to. Their sales have expanded out far and wide – to Australia and the US, and Simon seeks to collaborate with small British mills – on small production runs for blankets and throws.
