Adapt Ability Receives A Stelios Disabled Entrepreneur Award

Adapt Ability’s Director, Cristian Brownlee – was awarded with a prestigious ‘Stelios Disabled Entrepreneur Award,’ at a ceremony held in London, on May 18th, 2023.

The award recognized Adapt Ability’s revolutionary wheelchair innovation. The esteemed accolade (as presented by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, and the Leonard Cheshire charity) acknowledged the remarkable success of Adapt Ability, and its groundbreaking Omeo wheelchair – in the UK, and in Ireland.

Cristian’s entrepreneurial achievement secured him the top spot: first place, and a prize of £50,000, which will further propel the growth of the business.

Cristian was the first individual in the UK to experience the Omeo mobility device, which is a hands-free wheelchair – that revolutionizes the lives of individuals with mobility issues.

Impressed by its game-changing capabilities, Cristian (along with his partner, Tina Walczyk) founded Adapt Ability. They were later joined by Matthew Walker, who has played a pivotal role in driving business growth.

The mission is to provide access to the most technologically-advanced mobility solutions on the market. Their flagship product, the Omeo – has already transformed the lives of various customers – for the better.

Adapt Ability also gained recent exposure, by appearing on BBC’s Dragons’ Den.

“Our appearance on Dragons’ Den earlier on this year has made our business stronger. We are thrilled to be able to give back to our community, with a competition that launched at the Motability Show on the 19th May. We’ll be giving one lucky person the opportunity to win an Omeo,” said Cristian.

The competition will give one individual – the chance to win a fully-refurbished Omeo power chair, in vibrant orange livery; valued at over £12,000. Nominations are now open, and a panel of judges will select the winner.

The brand’s co-founder, Matthew Walker (who suffered a T10 spinal cord injury, and is paralyzed from the waist down) expressed his gratitude for the Omeo – stating that it has saved him from feeling trapped in his chair.

The Omeo’s versatility and its ‘all-terrain’ capabilities has given him a newfound sense of independence; allowing him to engage in activities he once loved – again.

Cristian Brownlee (who experienced a T4 spinal cord injury) has acknowledged the profound impact the Omeo has had on his life – liberating him from the confines of his home. With the Omeo, he has rediscovered joy and purpose, by exploring the outdoors, and by embracing a new outlook on life.
