Byellie: From Gen-Z Entrepreneur To Six-Figure Beauty Empire

Ellie (a gen-z entrepreneur) defied the odds, by turning her solution for acne side effects – into a thriving beauty empire, Byellie, – with the help of TikTok.

After leaving her retail job at Harrods, and University in 2019, Ellie was determined to forge her own path. Faced with the stress of the Covid-19 lock-down, and the unwanted side effects of prescription acne treatment, she encountered a new problem: dry, cracked lips, that would often bleed.

Motivated to find a solution, she embarked on an extensive search for a remedy. With her £2,000 life savings, and a keen interest in business, marketing, and brand development, she set out to create the ultimate lip repairing product, and thus, the Byellie lip balm was born.

In 2021, Ellie launched her brand – starting out with the lip balm, but she expanded to include the viral sensation “Brow Shape,” a TikTok-famous brow wax that has inspired many to cancel their brow lamination appointments.

The success of Byellie has been remarkable: one video showcasing the brow wax – gained a staggering 29 million views; propelling the brand to cult status, and catching the attention of notable figures, such as Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist, Ash Kohlm, who expressed a desire to try the products.

With more than 81.2K followers, 3.3 million likes, and 16.9 million views on the brand’s TikTok hashtag #byellie, Ellie’s beauty empire has captured the imagination of a dedicated and growing audience.

In just eighteen months, Byellie has sold tens of thousands of products, with a high demand in the UK, and in the US. Ellie’s success can be attributed to her acute understanding of the beauty world, and her audience’s desires for innovative, solution-based products – that deliver long-lasting, high-end results.

“I had never suffered from skin issues before Covid. It made me feel really embarrassed,” said Ellie.

“Constantly examining my bad skin only made me feel more isolated. It was a low point in my life, with everything changing in the world. I felt lost,” she added.

“I couldn’t find a product that would soothe my cracked, bleeding lips, or one that came in a larger size. I wanted something that wouldn’t get lost at the bottom of my handbag,” said Ellie.

Driven by her creative mindset and her entrepreneurial spirit, Ellie channeled her spare time during the pandemic into intensive research on ingredients and suppliers. She quickly learned that the beauty industry is highly competitive, and it’s filled with closed doors.

However, she persisted, and through trial and error, she navigated her way in the beauty world, until she finally discovered the formula that led her to success.

As a Gen-Z entrepreneur, Ellie faced additional challenges associated with her age, but she views being part of Generation Z as an advantage, i.e. bringing fresh ideas, and a more flexible approach to business.

“Careers can be so much more than the traditional 9-5. I’m still learning, and our brand is growing rapidly. I’m proud to have built a community of people, who crave solution-based products with innovative formulations,” said Ellie.
