Piddle Patch Receives 4/5 Investment Offers On Dragons’ Den.

In case you missed last night’s episode, Rebecca Sloan’s Piddle Patch appeared on BBC’s Dragons’ Den, and received multiple investment offers from 4/5 Dragons.

The innovative pet-care business was Founded by the former marketing consultant in 2016, and is the UK’s first ever eco-friendly, real-grass alternative to puppy pads (which provides an intuitive way to house-train dogs, teaching them to toilet ONLY on grass, and not on textiles).

The invention helps canine parents to reduce accidents at home, whilst speeding up the house-training process, too: in other words, it’s the perfect solution for toilet-training a puppy, and it’s suitable for dogs without easy access to an outdoor space, or… for owners looking after a poorly or incontinent pet. Also, the device provides a soil free, real-grass loo for your canine companion (which is suitable for use indoors, or outside on a balcony or patio).

Basically, Piddle Patch is the natural alternative to puppy pads (which are mass-produced plastic products that can take up to 500 years to degrade in landfill). Impressively, the grass is 100% biodegradable, and the packaging can be recycled. The product is grown in recycled textiles, instead of soil, to produce a longer-lasting grass, with a thick root system. NOTE: This prevents muddy paw prints from being tracked into your home…

And just when you think that things couldn’t get more impressive, the grass is grown and harvested in the UK, without the use of chemicals or pesticides, and is delivered directly to your door on a subscription basis, or as a one-off purchase.

The inspiration for Piddle Patch came during a visit to the park:The dogs were happy to be in their natural environment, and the stress associated with toilet time melted away, because the dogs knew instinctively where to do their business. When house training a dog, it makes complete sense to teach them to behave as they would do in the outside world – and so Piddle Patch was born,” said Piddle Patch’s Founder, Rebecca Sloan.

Already, Piddle Patch has attracted the attention of the TV dog trainer, Oli Juste:

“Using a Piddle Patch from the word ‘go’ means that you can have quick and easy access to a patch of grass (which is great for flats and balconies, etc.) to avoid accidents. You may not mind accidents, but they will slow down the training terribly. Secondly, you won’t send mixed messages by starting toilet training using puppy pads, then moving to a different, new surface – just as the dog is starting to learn,” said Oli.

Prior to launching Piddle Patch, Rebecca studied Broadcast Journalism at University. Initially, she wanted to be an investigative journalist to report on issues she believed in, however she graduated just as the recession hit, and there were no opportunities around, so she went on to become a marketing and business consultant, instead – helping small business owners to support their goals. This “lit the flame” in her interest in entrepreneurship.

Fast forward a few years later, and Piddle Patch has now sold over 13,000 soil free, real grass, dog toilets in the UK.
