Meet The Argentinian Craft Artist Behind My Papercut Forest.

Launched by an artist named Silvina, My Papercut Forest is an arts and crafts business that provides DIY crafting kits (with templates, tools and instructions).

Silvina De Vita is an Argentinian artist who lives in Brighton. After an episode of postnatal depression, she began to make miniatures as a form of therapy.

This gave her first-hand experience of the positive power of working with your hands, so she took her designs on the road, and she taught workshops across the UK.

Silvina noticed the magical effect that crafting had on other people. In no time at all, strangers around the table would focus, learn, and gradually open up to each other. Hours would fly by, as people worked alongside each other, chatting, laughing, and sharing.

Silvina wanted to bring this experience to more people, so she started to sell DIY craft kits through her business, My Papercut Forest in 2018. The kits come fully-equipped with templates, tools, and instructions. In 2020, when the world was in lock-down, her DIY kits proved very popular, and her brand was featured in My Modern Met, The Guardian, and more.

Despite having children at home, material supply issues, and the loss of her mother, Silvina still managed to grow her business by 150% year on year.

Sustainability is a massively important factor in my production. I use local suppliers, and I employ local people from my area. I do believe that change starts at home,” said Sylvia.
