Set up in 2019 by Martin Holden-White, Grubby is a 100% plant-based recipe kit. The brand has gone from strength-to-strength – £0 to £5MIL, in just three years.

Martin Holden-White embarked on his culinary journey as a part-time chef – when he was just 16 years old.

His passion for the food industry flourished – leading him to study business and hospitality at University, whilst gaining invaluable experience in various roles, including a placement on a cruise ship. However, it was a moment of inspiration in 2019 that ignited the idea behind Grubby. Martin recalled the moment when he discovered a lack of convenient options for nutritious meals, after leaving the office.

“There was nothing to grab as you left work – besides a takeaway, or on an aimless supermarket wonder. Despite trying to reduce my meat intake for both my well-being and the planet, I found it difficult to cook, and I thought ‘others must be struggling, too.’ So I quit my job, which was swiftly followed by several people telling me it was a ridiculous idea, and this was and still is the fire that fuels me every day,” said Martin.

Grubby’s success can be attributed to its commitment to sustainability, and its customer satisfaction: the company prioritizes environmentally-friendly practices, with packaging that is 100% recyclable, compostable, and produced locally in the UK. In an effort to reduce carbon emissions, ALL deliveries within London are made by bike, and any food waste is offset through partnerships with food waste organisations.

In recognition of its comprehensive sustainability efforts, Grubby proudly became one of the first 1,000 B Corps in the UK. Also, for every box sold, the company donates a meal to a child living in poverty in Uganda, through its partnership with 1morechild.org.

Grubby’s recipe kits are carefully-crafted to create a diverse range of flavours and nutritional benefits. Each kit includes an average of six or more fresh vegetables – encouraging customers to explore a variety of plant-based ingredients.
